Access to better information can have a significant impact on women’s migration choices and outcomes. This working paper analyzes how information frictions in global labor markets influence the decisions and experiences of prospective female migrant workers in Indonesia. A randomized controlled trial spanning 400 villages found that providing easy-to-read "report cards" on intermediary agency quality reduced migration rates as it diminished the use of low-quality providers, and improved decision-making. Women who used this information ended up working with higher-quality placement providers, received better pre-departure training, and experienced improved non-pecuniary job benefits abroad.
