Measuring Social Capital and Social Cohesion in CDD Operations

CDD approaches are used in contexts ranging from post-crisis and post-disaster emergency programs to national initiatives in middle-income countries aimed at improving services in lagging regions and reaching the most vulnerable populations.  One challenge faced in CDD and more broadly in fragile and conflict-affected situations (FCS) is the difficulty in measuring project interventions on social cohesion.  In view of this, the CDD CoP commissioned Ryan Sheely and Jeeyon Kim of Mercy Corps to develop a social cohesion measurement toolkit. Attached is the toolkit.  This toolkit is a living document that will continue to be revised and updated on a periodic basis based on feedback and the results of piloting and validation. Please use this page to share ideas and feedback.

  • Hi Ashutosh Raina, thank you for posting the new toolkit for measuring Social Capital and Social Cohesion in CDD Operations. This is an interesting new use for the term Social Capital that I had not considered before. We used the Social Capital concept extensively in the non profit / NGO sectors and with my volunteer engagement work in the US.
