Investing in Heritage in Fragile Countries, Why It Matters?

Thursday, November 5, 2015 || 12:30 - 2:30 pm || Room: MC C1-100

Description:

In 2012, the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Government of the United States of America launched an international competition to design a new National Museum of Afghanistan for Kabul, believing that culture and heritage can play a role in reconciliation and peace building.  The competition attracted interest from architects, engineers, urban planners, and designers at global level: 148 firms from 68 countries competed with innovative concepts and an international Jury eventually selected the project developed by AV 62 Arquitectos, Spain (Toño Foraster Mariscal, Victoria Garriga Ariño, Blanca Pujals, Stefano Carnelli, Samantha Sgueglia, Itziar Imaz, Nuno Lopes, Daria Luce, Luis de la Fuente, Marc Marin).  The project is now moving to implementation.  In this lunch talk, you will have the opportunity of meeting the lead designer of this project, Toño Foraster Mariscal, and learn about his experience on why investing in heritage in fragile countries matters.  Toño will walk the participants through the competition process, illustrate his ground-breaking project, and interact with the audience.  Join us for this unique learning experience.
