World Bank and European Commission organized regional road safety meeting with representatives from 6 Eastern Partnership countries

The 6th meeting of the three Regional Working Groups (RWG) on road safety took place on June 18th, 2019 in Kyiv, Ukraine. The six Eastern Partnership countries were represented at the meeting by the relevant Regional Working Groups members and civil society representatives. The total number of participants was over 50 people. Mr. Boyan Tanev, (DG NEAR) and Ms. Maria Teresa Sanz Villegas (DG MOVE C.4) represented the European Commission. The World Bank team was represented by Mr. Antonio Nunez (Senior Transport Specialist), Ms. Fiona Collin (Lead Transport Specialist), Ms. Elena Lungu (Transport Specialist), Ms. Maria Segui Gomez (Road Safety Consultant), Ms. Mariya Ivchenko (Road Safety Consultant) and Ms. Eleonora Papadimitriou (Road Safety Consultant).

One of the key discussion topics at the meeting was establishment of the Eastern Partnership Road Safety Observatory (EaP RSO). The EaP countries expressed commitment to continue moving toward establishment of the EaP RSO which has been also highlighted in the joint Declaration signed on June 6th, 2019 in Luxembourg. The EaP RSO should provide analytical support for adjusting the national road safety policies, strategies and annual action plans in the EaP region. The intention is to address concrete shortcomings and improve road safety in the EaP countries.
