US$20 million fund for business innovation for renewable energy in East Africa / AECF - Deadline Sept. 23, 2014

The Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund is pleased to announce the third round of the Renewable Energy and Adaptation to Climate Technologies Funding Window (REACT). REACT is open to business ideas based on low cost renewable energy and solutions (technologies, products, services) that can help rural people adapt to climate change. The round has a US$20 million funding availability, for profit-private sector companies may apply for grants and interest free loans. Companies may be from anywhere around the world, but the projects must be implemented in one or more countries of the East African Community (Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda).

The third round of REACT particularly encourages applications targeted at arid and semi-arid areas of East Africa.

REACT provides patient risk capital (grants, interest free loans) to businesses with potentially transformative climate change solutions and which seek to make a profit, go to scale and to have a deep social impact.
