This summer, I had the privilege of completing a two-month internship through the RENEW MENA Program, in collaboration with the World Bank Group and the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN). As an assistant engineer intern, I joined a dynamic team dedicated to advancing Morocco’s renewable energy transition and promoting sustainable land management practices. From the very beginning, I was inspired by MASEN’s vision — transforming the country’s natural resources into drivers of clean growth and social development.

My main mission was to optimize a Python-based application designed for monitoring and analyzing territorial data. The objective was to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of sustainable land management processes. Throughout the internship, I worked on improving code performance, automating repetitive tasks, and developing digital cartographies that translated environmental data into interactive and meaningful visualizations.

Beyond the technical aspects, this experience was deeply formative. I learned how to collaborate within a multidisciplinary environment, manage complex datasets, and think critically about how technology can empower sustainability. More importantly, it helped me see how engineering and digital innovation can directly contribute to environmental resilience and sustainable development.

Looking back, this internship was far more than a professional experience — it was a moment of growth and purpose. It strengthened my programming and analytical skills, but also deepened my conviction to use technology as a force for environmental impact. I left with a clearer vision of the kind of engineer I aspire to become: one who codes with intention, builds with awareness, and contributes meaningfully to the world’s energy transition.
