Results-Based Aid: The Salud Mesoamérica Experience
March 10, 2016 12:00 - 02:00 pm EST
MC 8-100, World Bank Main Complex, 1818 H Street NW, Washington, D.C.
The Mesoamerican region, an economic region comprising the united economies of the seven countries in Central America — Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama — and nine southeastern states of Mexico — Campeche, Chiapas, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Puebla, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, Veracruz, and Yucatán, has one of the highest maternal mortality rates on the American continent. To help change that, the Salud Mesoamérica Initiative uses a Results-Based Financing model, which works to reduce maternal and health inequalities, in line with the priorities established by the region’s governments.
Speakers
Ferdinando Regalia, head of Social Protection and Health Division, Inter-American Development Bank and Emma Margarita Iriarte, Executive Secretary of the Salud Mesoamérica Initiative, sponsored by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Carlos Slim Health Institute, and the Spanish Government.
