Here are ten tips for parents whose children are engaged in remote learning:

- tips from the Education Global Practice

  1. Put your children on a regular daily schedule, ensuring they have regular breaks.
  2. Find a dedicated place for them to study every day that is conducive to learning (appropriate levels of light and noise, minimal distractions).
  3. Ensure that they have the equipment and tools needed and that these resources are in working order; make sure children can easily turn on and log into whatever technology tools they need.
  4. Have a specific plan for each day, write it out, and review this briefly at the beginning and end of each day, setting and reviewing expectations.
  5. Where possible, utilize resources provided by your child's school and/or that are aligned with your child's curriculum. Contact your child’s teacher on a regular basis (weekly, bi-weekly), as needed.
  6. Ensure your child gets regular exercise outside (if not, ensure the exercise inside, given local restrictions related to COVID-19).
  7. Encourage and motivate your child.
  8. Expect setbacks; remote learning is difficult for both students and parents.
  9. Reach out to other families who are engaged in remote learning for support and advice.
  10. Take care of yourself. Balancing remote learning for your child while working at home is extremely challenging. If you’re are not taking sufficient care of themselves, it will impact on your child's ability to learn successfully.
