SubLime Living is a client and family centered occupational therapy practice serving families and individuals across the lifespan in the United States and abroad. Occupational Therapy (OT) is the profession and practice of improving lives! By using purposeful, functional and meaningful activities we equip individuals for the job of sublime living in everyday life.  We believe in holistic health care, treating the whole person, which is why we partner with other health practitioners to provide you and your family with comprehensive care.

At Sublime Living, we work with ALL individuals – including those diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit, Developmental Delays, and Learning Disabilities. We offer an extensive list of tailored, unique, client and family-centered programs and services in the comfort of your home or using teletherapy…supporting and empowering you in achieving a meaningful and satisfactory life.  Check out our website at www.sublimelivin.com

We pride ourselves in using  a strength-based approach, building on individual abilities rather than weaknesses to improve their quality of life. Each individual has their own laws of development, by not imposing our own and honoring where the client is in their life and development, we can effectively equip people with the skills for the job of living.

Dr. Gillian Rai is an OT, professor, consultant, coach and speaker with 25 plus years of academic and clinical international experience.  She has a faculty appointment at New York University, is Commissioner on DC Health and Licensing Board of Occupational Therapy, and partner with the George Washington Univ. • Pivot to Thrive: Workshop 3 - Feeling Lonely?

    What is Loneliness? Why do we Feel it? What to Do about It?

    Loneliness and the fear of loneliness often powerfully influence our lives, frequently leading to higher anxietyemotional roller coaster, poor heath and relationshipsineffective decisions and self-sabotage. However, while everybody basically knows what it means to be lonely, it’s surprisingly hard to define it precisely (and especially when trying to do it alone, ironically). And with the holiday season upon us, but with pandemic restrictions in travel and socialization still in place, many of us are dealing with evenstronger (or different, new and confusing) emotions around our (dis)connection with those we are close or distant for various reasons (like paradoxically, feeling lonely when we are surrounded by people, or even feeling overcrowded… and yet .. lonely)

    Many people are trying to escape loneliness by engaging into a flurry of activities and escaping into work and “busyness”, or getting preoccupied with caregiving and ‘people-pleasing’ - all in hopes of feeling connected, needed, valued, or appreciated, or simply distracted from feeling the pain. But as a result, they only stretch themselves even thinner, wasting even more of their precious energy and timeover-crowded and squeezed-out form their ‘personal space’ that is often seems gone, but only feelingmore frustrated, exhausted, resentful, used, disconnected and … lonely.

    Why?

    • Partly because the concept is difficult to comprehend as our experience of loneliness tends to be varied and individual-specific;
    • The experience is often painful and is clouded by multifaceted emotions, negative thoughts, unconscious beliefs, and not-so pleasant memories that we try to avoid.
    • And most importantly, it is difficult to tackle it alone and “look it into an eye” because – well…. you do feel alone …  with the overpowering emotions, perspectives and fears that are stirring under the surface.

    But the real solution is simple, (although not always easy), especially when loneliness is faced together.

    Join us for an open and candid supported conversation that will shine light, bring awareness, provide you with a powerful framework and give you a few strategies to explore over the holiday season to support yourself and others.

    • We’ll look into the paradox of loneliness and its relationships with the concepts of isolation, solitude, being alone, overcrowded, connected, intimate, vulnerable and “in control”.
    • We’ll explore different causes, triggers and common types of loneliness, and how it can negatively affect our lives.
    • Finally, we will explore how to deal with loneliness in a healthy way and some tips for helping kids, friends or loved ones who are lonely.
