Male Backlash and Female Guilt: Women’s Employment and Intimate Partner Violence in Urban India (2021)

This research shows that women who are employed face significantly higher levels of violence compared to women engaged in domestic work only – a finding attributed to male backlash to female economic empowerment. The researchers propose a second reason for the increased violence – female guilt channel – which posits that employed women are more prone to justify violence against them. Read more.
