Adaptive social protection (ASP) schemes, which integrate fundamental social protection with disaster risk management and adaptation to climate change, are increasingly used to prevent or mitigate the negative impacts of shocks (including natural hazards) and boost the resilience of poor and vulnerable households. This report takes stock of ASP in six countries highly vulnerable to shocks – Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, and Senegal – offering a set of recommendations for strengthening the adaptiveness and responsiveness of systems.
