Bio:
Lesley Shneier is actively engaged with the 1818 Society to capture, curate and share alumni development knowledge with current WBG staff. She is a former Senior Knowledge and Learning Specialist at the World Bank Group, as well as Instructor for the Capstone Program for Columbia University's Master's of Science in Information and Knowledge Strategy. She comes from South Africa, with a background in social work, human resources, organization change and management consulting. Lesley worked at the World Bank in Washington DC for 27 years, in various capacities focusing mainly on organizational change, including human resources, executive development, management consulting, and the impact of ICT tools on how people work. From 1996-2012, she has been at the center of the group leading the knowledge sharing program. She is currently working on knowledge sharing, innovation and collaboration, focusing mainly on communities of practice. Her experiences relate to mainstreaming the knowledge sharing program across the Bank and beyond to include clients and partners; working with the leaders of the communities of practice (called Thematic Groups), as they develop and lead their communities; organizing large knowledge sharing events such as knowledge conferences, knowledge fairs and expos as ways of communicating the knowledge sharing message to many people in and outside the World Bank. Other work interests include looking at how organization change programs such as knowledge sharing are adopted and adapted into the organizational culture, how group collaboration tools and social media impact the way people work in decentralized environments, and facilitating electronic and other meetings. She holds degrees in Social Work, and a Masters in Personnel Management from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.
