Bio:
I am a master's student at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, graduating in May 2014 with concentrations in Energy, Resources, and the Environment, and International Economics. My colleagues, Kieran Coleman, Julia Heckmann, and Sunny Xu, and I are working on a year-long study on the role of policy in mitigating or compounding risks to private sector development of energy services in India. Our research is looking at the business of mini-grid development and how it faces numerous risks on a macro and micro scale. Some of these risks are the direct result of specific policy positions while others are ‘unintended consequences’ of policy implementation. In addition, the policy and regulatory environment of a country can impede or accelerate the scalability of private sector involvement. Our research focuses on India and looks to compare and contrast the practices observed there with those in other countries in order to examine what policies work in each context and how they could be implemented in additional geographies. My team and I look forward to engaging this platform and incorporating the experiences of practitioners in our research. Our research will culminate in a published document and public presentation that will be made available to this community.
