Considering that green growth is an inherent part of sustainable development which could enable the government to leapfrog old technologies in many sectors, an initiative has been taken to formalise a committee to harmonise economic growth with environmental sustainability.
The committee, namely ‘Sustainability and Green Growth Working Committee,’ will help improving the eco-efficiency of economic growth and enhancing the synergies between environment and economy.
The Ministry of Environment and Forests (MOEF) and BUILD jointly held an introductory meeting at the secretariat recently in a bid to formalizing the working committee.

Besides, the platform will work for creating awareness among private sector stakeholders and grass-root people about organisational and peripheral hazards and disasters and the sustainable and resilient way outs.
The MOEF secretary appreciated the initiative of the private sector and agreed to take steps to create enabling environments for the platform.
“This is a positive intent of the private sector that they enhanced and expanded efforts to identify and address major knowledge gaps in green growth and practice, Dr. Kamal Uddin Ahmed said adding, “This would help the government design and implement policies to move towards a green economy while the government encouraging the private sector to green business.”
He also added that the standpoint of the present government is quite different than that of others and the private sector should act positively to exploit opportunities. Sustainability is a must for green growth while the country should not decouple the sustainability from GDP growth.
Md. Siddiqur Rahman, President of BGMEA ensured that BGMEA will extend all supports for the platform and requested BUILD to hold meeting with the corresponding wing of BGMEA in order to identify sectoral and products specific action which can be implemented through this working committee.
