Strategies for Prevention-Oriented Societies

Where you live could impact the state of your physical and mental health.

The National Prevention Council (NPC) chaired by the US Surgeon General, identified strategies for "prevention-oriented societies" in its 2014 National Prevention, Health Promotion, and Public Health Council Annual Status Report.  This report highlights progress in implementing the National Prevention Strategy and reaching its goal of increasing the number of healthy Americans at every stage of life. Since many of the strongest predictors of health and well-being fall outside of the health care setting, the Strategy envisions a prevention-oriented society where all sectors contribute to the health of individuals, families, and communities. Download the Report.

The NPC's Partner in Prevention, the American Public Health Association (APHA) and APHA's partner, Georgia Tech, are building bridges between public health and community design and planning through their Built Environment and Public Health Clearinghouse (BEPHC). APHA is also co-producing with SSF a webinar on this topic.

We hope you'll join us on October 30th for Designing and Planning for Healthy Cities - A Conversation With Georges Benjamin Richard Jackson and Tim Beatley.

As a prelude to the webinar on October 30th, co-produced with APHA, we have loaded the NPC 2014 Report to provide an introduction to the issues.

Please join SSF and APHA on October 30th to hear presenters diagnose the health ailments prevalent in our cities, and provide design and planning solutions to urban, health challenges.
