cathytao89 Sep 30, 2014 8:29 AM (in response to sossougadoss)Would you please comment on how and why you think electric stoves might be the way to go to solve climate change issues? And, do you have any experience/knowledge on the comparative advantages of electric stoves?

sossougadoss Sep 30, 2014 10:15 AM (in response to cathytao89)You know, Poverty is on the base of deforestation for cooking: Women affirm that they are causing climate change by this way. So if the United Nation doesn't find sollution for them. The will destroy all. So climate change will persist.
The sollution to reduise forest carbone emmission is the use of electric cookstoves. If you can tell me it's desavantages it will be better for me.

Re: Electric Stoves: What are the pros and cons comparative to other solutions in clean cooking/heating?
665682 Sep 30, 2014 11:15 AM (in response to sossougadoss)Clearly, electric stoves are clean from the end user's point. However, whether it is the solution really depends on whether households have access to reliable electricity and where the electricity comes from. In many developing countries where people still rely on solid fuel for cooking, often in rural areas, access to electricity is an issue. If we have to wait for grid extension to reach these people to solve the problem, many people may have to die prematurely due to indoor air pollution before they could use electric stoves. Could we afford that? On the other hand, electricity is often produced by coal power plants in many developoing countries. More electricity use means more coal burning which is associated with GHG emissions and air pollution too. The third point is the costs. We know that rural electrification is expensive. If electricity price reflects its real costs in these rural areas, I doubt how many people could afford to use electric stoves for cooking (not to mention heating) even though they get free stove.

sossougadoss Sep 30, 2014 11:37 AM (in response to 665682)Ok, You know, UN assembly adopted the post 2015 agenda for the sustainable development on september 22, 2014. In this agenda there are energy for all by 2030, climate change also.
The process is that everybody in the rural zone must have electricity, for the cost it is the renewable energy(solar) which will be used for cookstoves. If you have electrity with will be accessible for all and you have electric cookstove, would you like again use wood or fuel to cook?
This can reduce poverty, pollution and strenght Health for all. You and I. Isn't it ?

Re: Electric Stoves: What are the pros and cons comparative to other solutions in clean cooking/heating?
665682 Sep 30, 2014 1:57 PM (in response to sossougadoss)Should we wait for 2030 when we are able to achieve universal access to electricity and then give those households who still use biomass stove an electric stove to replace? Could we ensure all electricity will be produced by renewable energy by then? Could solar cooker meet all cooking needs in everywhere in the world? My point is that we should not only look at one technology at one end using point, we should look into why people currently prefer certain technologies and what are better solutions that can fit that particular situation.

sossougadoss Sep 30, 2014 4:30 PM (in response to 665682)You know, I'm one of those created this vision for the post 2015, so in stay in this goals. But if we can start now something which can be benefit for our population, it will be better.
