      Dear Caribbean Colleagues:

This week kicks off the Caribbean Disaster Risk Management & Climate Change Adaptation: Data to Decision-Making Workshop held in St. Vincent & the Grenadines from Nov 12-14, 2013.  This workshop focuses on spatial data to inform decision-making and builds upon regional and national efforts to exchange knowledge, explore existing tools and resources, and share lessons learned.  For those unable to attend, we’ll be sharing information and resources as they become available on the Community site and on the webpage: www.worldbank.org/lcrdrm/SVGdata.
      Webinar (Tentative)

We hope to broadcast a session live, via webinar, on Tuesday, Nov. 12, from 10:00 am – 11:00 am (OECS time).  This session, An Overview of Disaster Risk Management / Climate Change Adaptation Decision-Making and Role of Spatial Data, provides context for several considerations involved in decision-making.  These include climate change, disaster risk, preparedness, and the applications of spatial data and ecosystem-based adaptation to inform decisions.

      Workshop Abstract

Across the Caribbean, countries are working together to improve national and regional spatial data management to increase the access and use of such data to inform decisions about disaster risk management (DRM) and climate change adaptation (CCA).  This workshop builds upon ongoing activities through the Regional Disaster Vulnerability Reduction Program (RDVRP) and previous workshops and training. Since October 2011, a Caribbean community of data and risk management practitioners was established at the Eastern Caribbean Open-Source Geospatial Data Sharing and Management Workshop in Grenada to discuss challenges and propose solutions to harmonize data sharing and management across ministries, countries and regional agencies. Since then, the broader Caribbean region collectively has been working to exchange knowledge, share lessons, discuss tools and support spatial data integration into decision-making processes.
