It is globally acknowledged that the importance of digitalization in agriculture, food and nutrition security and rural development is growing, with its potential to contribute towards transformation being nowhere near exhausted. As a fast-evolving sector, it requires not only new technical competencies but also news ways of promoting digital agricultural innovations. As part of the special initiative “ONE WORLD - no Hunger” (SEWOH), commissioned by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) draws on a variety of approaches to implement digital innovations that benefit smallholder farmers, especially the youth and women. These different approaches aim to accelerate the implementation of user-centered digital solutions by encouraging entrepreneurial mindsets and enhancing responsible digital ecosystems. In this webinar, GIZ projects will present their approaches and how they maximize the potential of digital innovations. Speakers will share their insights on their current projects and will give answers on what digital innovation means for the GIZ’s agriculture, food and nutrition security and rural development portfolio and present specific approaches to identifying, promoting and scaling digital agricultural innovations. Discussants from the World Bank will join in to identify possible areas of collaboration and how to foster mutual learning and exchange.
