Despite substantial efforts to improve food safety, China still faces significant food safety risks that are causing considerable global public health concerns and economic losses. Foodborne disease outbreaks and product recalls in the past have damaged consumer trust and hurt China’s food industry’s reputation and competitiveness. In addition, the recent COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbate food safety challenges, notably in processing, packaging and transporting agro-products. Shortcomings in food safety and sanitary practices along the value chain makes China particularly susceptible to zoonotic diseases. In addition to improvements to food safety standards, China has looked towards disruptive digital solutions for effective food safety management.
This webinar, follows The World Food Safety Day 2021 being observed on June 7, will explore the different elements of the digital ecosystem in China that drives its food safety outcomes. The speakers represent food safety regulators that are leading in good practices. These include smart food safety supervision technologies (SAMR), agrifood traceability systems (GS1), risk analytics for insurance innovations (Swiss Re), and blockchain based ecosystems services for SMEs (PingAn Bank).
