Mobile World Congress brings together over 60,000 professionals working in the mobile industry with specific events being run by the Mobile for Development group within the GSMA.
Join us at Mobile World Congress, February 25th-28th 2013, as we celebrate the launch of Mobile Enabled Community Services (MECS). Drawing on the strong foundation of the Green Power and Community Power Programmes, MECS explores how the mobile industry can support access to both energy and water services in off-grid areas
.
Our main goal for MWC 2013 is to showcase existing partnerships and the innovative products and services currently in development or in the market. In addition to the events listed below MECS will be hosting a Booth in Hall 7 (7E56) where water and energy product and service providers can display their products and host meetings.
If you have any questions please let us know. We hope we will see you in Barcelona!
Energy+Mobile for Development Seminar – Monday February 25th at 9:30am – 11.30am
From urban to rural areas, mobile networks have become the predominant infrastructure in emerging markets and more people are now covered by mobile networks than have access to energy and water, with a total estimated addressable market of 575 M people.
Join us as we hear from leading mobile operators, tower companies, energy services and technology companies on innovative partnerships that are delivering value to both the industry and rural communities and how this industry is expected to grow and scale. Confirmed speakers include Fenix International (in partnership with MTN Uganda, Safaricom and Vodafone), M-KOPA (in partnership with Safaricom/M-PESA) and OMC Power (in partnership with Bharti Infratel).
Mobile Operators Roundtable Session– Monday February 25th at 2:30pm – 4:00pm
This session will bring together leading Mobile Operators and Infrastructure providers to learn more about the work underway by their peers and to openly discuss of the opportunities and challenges in a closed door setting. The session will also provide an overview of the new programme including the rational to unite energy and water under one programme, the programmes planned activities and the innovation funding that will be made available to the industry.
This is an invitation-only session. Contact Mary Roach at mroach@gsma.com if you would like any more information, or if there is an executive from your organisation who is attending MWC and who would benefit from this session.
Funding Innovation for MECS- Tuesday February 26th at 10 am – 11.30pm
Following the interest from MWC 2012 we have chosen to repeat the Session.
Leveraging the mobile industry to deliver development outcomes provides an unprecedented opportunity for scale. To move concepts from idea to action and then to a commercially viable solution requires coordination amongst unlikely partners; an ecosystem that supports the trial (and potential failure) of innovative solutions and access to financing that crosses the “valley of death”. Please join us for an interactive session between active investors and service providers to discuss the ways to fund innovation in Community Services.
This is an invitation-only session. Contact cpm@gsma.com if you would like any more information, or if there is someone from your organisation that would benefit from this session.
Sustainable Energy & Water Access through M2M Connectivity – Tuesday February 26th at 2:00pm – 3:30pm
Beyond voice and SMS, the maturity and cost decrease of Machine to Machine (M2M) solutions coupled to the development of mobile micro-payments are opening new pathways to innovative thinking, where mobile connectivity can be leveraged to provide affordable energy and improved water access.
This session will focus on sharing the results of the GSMA’s recent research on the impact of M2M connectivity to support delivery of energy and water services in emerging markets. Entrepreneurs, working in this space, will be invited to present their business models and experiences with M2M. The moderated discussion will focus on the future of this sector and the opportunity to create a new design for M2M modules, targeting underserved customers in resource constrained economies.
This is an invitation-only session. Contact cpm@gsma.com if you would like any more information, or if there is someone from your organisation that would benefit from this session.
