Rural Electrification Feasibility Study: Data Collection Templates
I am working in Assam (North East India) to study the feasibility of setting up solar energy mini grids. In connection with our feasibility study, we plan to survey the relevant villages to better understand their energy needs and their energy budget. I wanted to check if anyone has templates or data collection forms that we could use as a starting point to customize for our survey.
Regards,
Sanjeet

Dear Sanjeet,
We do not have special sheets. However during the field assessments, we collect the following data for a certain region doing a quick assessment for many villages:
a) number of houses, number of schools, number of heathcentres, electric water pumps, telecom users, social+ religious buildings, etc
b) for each of the groups of a) we determine an average size in capita, and determine the load consumption for each hour of the day for such average house/school/ etc c) using b) we calculate the energy consumption for a standardized village per hour per capita (optionally per usergroup: like houses, schools, etc)
d) Per village we keep record of the number of inhabitants, and user groups.
Using the above given data we can make load profiles for the assesed villages, which we use in our simulation tools which calculates the system dimensioning (PV, Wind, storage, grid costs, etc).
Hopefully this helps you !
FYI, our company ALFEN supplies turnkey mini-grids, or parts of the mini grid with a focus on the battery storage system.
I'm a graduate student at MIT working on a project through the MIT Energy Initiative that is looking into opportunities for micro grids throughout India. I would love to know more about the work you are doing since it seems like the lessons you learn could be very useful to our research. Sanjeet, do you have any literature about your project that you would be willing to share?

Dear Sanjeet and Evert,
We have uploaded 2 market survey templates onto the platform.
You will be able to find them in the 'documents' section:
While we hope this can be useful to you and others, we greatly appreciate feedback on the templates themselves.
Many thanks and best regards,
Yann
