On Wednesday, May 13, almost 300 participants from around the world joined high-level policy makers from Zimbabwe, Georgia, India and South Africa to discuss the fiscal and monetary response to COVID-19 and the implications for health financing. The webinar opened with a presentation by Iryna Postolovska (Economist, World Bank) who described the COVID macroeconomic outlook, highlighting data that projects declining GDP growth, declining revenues, and rising expenditures. A panel discussion followed, featuring Mthuli Ncube, Minister of Finance and Economic Development in Zimbabwe; Mark Blecher, Chief Director: Health and Social Development, National Treasury of South Africa; Tamar Gabunia, First Deputy Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia; and Alok Kumar, Advisor (Health & Nutrition, Financial Resources, and Administration) at the NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India).
