Held Thursday, May 21, this webinar was attended by almost 200 participants from around the world, along with technical experts and policy makers from over 20 countries. Opening remarks from Somil Nagpal (Senior Health Specialist, World Bank) and Kalipso Chalkidou (Director of Global Health Policy, Center for Global Development) highlighted the importance of prioritizing resources as countries look to mobilize domestic and external funding in exceptional circumstances. The first presentation was by Damian Walker (Non-Resident Fellow, Center for Global Development) on balancing priorities and health needs between COVID-19 and essential services while showcasing a soon to be launched tool that estimates non-COVID-19 excess mortality and net health impacts of policy. This was followed by a presentation by Prof. Richard Sullivan (Professor of Cancer and Global Health, King's College London) on setting priorities in patient management emphasizing the importance of addressing non-COVID excess deaths in the era of COVID-19. Y-Ling Chi (Senior Policy Analyst, Center for Global Development) then held a question answer session with Dr. Nneka Orji-Achugo (Senior Health Economist, Federal Ministry of Health Nigeria) on the COVID experience in Nigeria. Click here to view the full recording.
