In partnership with the State of Rio de Janeiro, the World Bank is pleased to invite you to participate in the Rio Metropolitan Strategic Planning Lab (MetroLab), which will take place on November 16-19, 2015 in the Windsor Atlantica Hotel (Avenida Atlantica, 1020 – Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro). Please find attached the jointly signed welcome letter from the Governor of the State of Rio de Janeiro and the World Bank.
The Rio MetroLab will address four principal Metropolitan Themes: shared prosperity and poverty reduction through metropolitan planning; (ii) metropolitan public private partnership - opportunities and challenges; (iii) planning systems and technology to improve service delivery, monitoring, and resilience; and (iv) demand side planning and service delivery (e.g. solid waste management, transport, and putting citizens as protagonists in metropolitan planning and governance).
In this context, MetroLab will include a series of site visits to reinforce the themes, including visits to Metropolitan Rio from the Bay, Olympic City Infrastructure, Rio Operations Center, and Solid Waste Management facilities – among others. As with previous labs, we will ensure each metropolitan city/region has an opportunity to make at least one presentation. The Lab also includes group work to ensure rich exchange among participants.
