  • I am Xiaofeng Li working at Urban Development and Resilience Unit of the World Bank.  My educational background is international trade (college degree)  and finance (master degree).  I have worked in the Bank China Office for 10 years before my family and I moved to Washington DC from Beijing, China 6 years ago when I started working in the Headquarters of the Bank.

I am very much interested in discussions on how to address financing issues while we are focusing on regional strategic planning.  I am glad to know that the first Webinar on May 28 is focused on metropolitan financing!  I very much look forward to this event!

  • Hello to all my friends - I am Victor Vergara from the World Bank Institute -- I am very happy that the follow-up with the C-4-D - platform is taking shape.  We are eager to support all our colleagues and friends in their quest of dynamic metropolitan cities with opportunities for all.

My main interest is Land Use Planing and Management as well as Metropolitan Finance.  In case you have not finalized your power point presentations please do so -- and most important your action plan to be implemented during the Lab.

  • Hello everybody, my name is Santiago E. Arias and I am from Buenos Aires, Argentina (the land of good meat, futbol and popes!)

I studied Political Science and Architecture. I earned a Fulbright Fellowship to study a MS in Urban Policy Analysis and Management at the New School in New York City. Prior to moving to the United States, I worked at the Department of Urban Planning of the City of Buenos Aires for four years, and also as a consultant on urban development for local governments and real estate developers.

I am particularly interested in advanced urban planning for complex fast-growing cities and its relationship with urban governance to deliver real implementation in local contexts.

I am glad to be part of this group and I am sure I will learn a lot from all of you.

I would like to share some pictures of Buenos Aires: the first is an aerial image that shows the overall region and the relation of the urban area (bottom left) as part of the Rio de la Plata environment and the green “pampa” (it's also possible to compare the size of the city with Montevideo on the upper right). The second one is a picture near the downtown area that reflects many of the challenges and complexities of the urban issues (territorial fragmentation, social inequality, infrastructure for public and private transport, etc.). Enjoy!

  • Hi Everyone,

My name is Ellen Hamilton from the urban anchor at the World Bank and I am so sorry to have missed the New York event!  I am an urban geographer by training and have worked at the World Bank for more than fifteen years, primarily in Latin America and in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.  Am very much looking forward to working with everyone on the lab.

I currently live in Washington DC which has a lot of metropolitan problems.  In fact the metro region for DC spans parts of two states (Virginia and Maryland) as well as the city proper, which was set up to not be part of any state and thus has a quasi-state status.  Best, Ellen
