The Government of Ghana developed a National Local Economic Development (LED) Policy in 2020. The policy considers LED as a territorial approach and a process to bring together local government, businesses, and the non-governmental sector into a partnership to create an environment for economic growth, employment generation, and increased incomes.
The Ghana SOCO Project aims to operationalize the government’s LED Policy in Northern Ghana, a lagging area, with the objective to fully harness the economic potentials of the project districts for inclusive job creation, thereby contributing to the Ghana Beyond Aid Agenda. The Ghana SOCO project also aims to support the development of LED public-private partnership platforms at the local government level to strengthen the resilience of local economies and promote integrated development and the economic inclusion of these areas.
This session will engage policymakers and development partners to discuss the LED policy and the challenges and opportunities for operationalizing this policy to promote inclusive local economic development and jobs in Northern Ghana.
