Regulatory or competitive constraints to direct payment system access.

Can you expand on the regulatory constraints to digitization?  I generally see them as limitation from the Central Bank and commercial banks that don't want CFIs to have direct access to payment systems, not the CFI supervisors themselves limiting CFIs, as such they are more constraits to competition.

  • I would argue that regulation should not be seen as something we can do nothing about it. One possible way of breaking those constraints might be to get together with other CFIs who are facing the same issues and make pledges to the regulators. In a more novel way, you could think about how you can make use of Open Banking within the context of the CFI you work at and also at country level to have access to products and services currently available only for traditional banks.
