Drawing on key findings and frameworks from the World Development Reports on Jobs (2013) and Gender Equality and Development (2012), this report examines gender constraints in the world of work using a lifecycle perspective. It examines the importance of women’s agency for boosting economic participation (and vice versa) and recommends actions at three levels to “level the playing field” for women, including government policies and reforms to address gender barriers across the lifecycle, private sector leadership and innovations that support gender equality, and closing gender data gaps to better inform evidence-based policies and practice.
