Updated How Can Locally Led Climate Action Support Just Coal Transitions? on Calendar
Thank you for participating in the 2nd webinar launching our new publication, Social Foundations of a Just Coal Transition. Transitioning away from coal towards affordable, reliable, and clean energy sources is urgent and essential for fulfilling the goals of the Paris Agreement. Yet this process, if not designed with inclusion and justice in mind, can have unintended, negative consequences for marginalized groups and communities whose livelihoods and identities have long been shaped by the sector. LLCA approaches can offer valuable insights for supporting socially sustainable, just coal transitions. In this webinar, we will discuss what actions can be undertaken at the earliest stages of preparing for a just transition, to ensure that transition decision-making is inclusive and benefits are shared across society. We will hear country examples on meaningful community engagement and participation, as well as trust and coalition-building to support effective bottom-up planning and action. Watch the recording |
