About the DigitalTown
DigitalTown is partnering with leading NGOs and local governments around the world to design and execute a global solution for Digital Identity and Financial inclusion. Under the proposed multi-stakeholder solution, anyone can register a one-time digital identity using the .UNO domain extension. The .UNO digital address is paired with a Blockchain-based digital identity that is GDPR-compliant and can be optionally rendered as a QR code. Authorized partners are able to verify attributes of individuals through their digital identities. The expected result is (1) trusted peer-to-peer transactions between verified persons, bypassing extractive intermediaries, (2) increased visibility of transactions including the ability to capture appropriate consumption taxes at time of transaction, and (3) a systematic countermeasure against unauthorized messaging (e.g. spam and phishing).
