Posted Smart City Scenarios for Brazil on Calendar
The webinar will share the key findings from a report (attached), "Insights about Smart Cities in Brazil for policy makers and public managers: Leveraging technologies for sustainable development", conducted by Deloitte and commissioned by NEC Latin America. The report presents different scenarios of smart cities that emerge from the Brazilian context, comparing local initiatives with global references and exploring projects from Brazil and Latin America, regulatory and technological trends related to smart cities, existing public policies, and main barriers for implementation. Based on qualitative interviews with specialists and key stakeholders in Brazil, the report provides recommendations to improve the existing policies and a set of coordinated actions to leverage technologies to address urban challenges and improve efficiency. Following the presentation of the report, the team leading the Rio de Janeiro Smart, Green and Resilient Urban Mobility project (P178729), which is supported by the Global Smart City Partnership Program (GSCP), will discuss the report findings and share insights on key challenges, lessons and recommendations from the perspective of the project design and implementation. With the rise of smart cities as a development agenda, a plethora of indicators has emerged, with some counting over 1,000 different indicators in existence. This reflects a huge interest in measuring the readiness or maturity of a city from a smartness perspective and monitoring the progress towards city vision and goals over time. However, the indicators' application in data- and capacity-constrained environments is limited due to their complexity and data requirements Focusing on cities in developing countries, this webinar aims to provide a platform to explore ways to make smart city indicators relevant and practical to these cities. For this, the webinar will introduce two sets of smart city indicators as below and engage the speakers and participants to discuss their utility and applicability to these cities. Posted Foundations for Smart Cities: Digital government development experiences of NIA on Calendar

The National Information Society Agency (NIA) has led the information and communications technology (ICT) development in Korea over three decades. Its experience in promoting national informatization and developing related policies for national and local governments cuts across high-speed information network, open data platform, and e-government systems and services – all critical foundations building smart cities and nations. Leveraging its expertise, NIA is expanding its global engagement through ICT technical assistance with international organizations and bilateral cooperation with partner countries in through joint research and development projects, ICT consultations and human resource exchanges. Digital government is a foundational layer for cities and countries to provide public services efficiently and innovatively and thus one of the important engagement areas for the World Bank. This webinar aims to introduce how NIA has contributed to Korea’s digital government over time and has applied this experience to other developing countries. The presentation will also introduce areas of NIA’s expertise and ways in which the World Bank clients can engage with NIA and benefit from cooperation. Chair
