  • How ITSTI provides Innovative solution approaches in supporting the WBG projects across many sectors in their effort to operationalize emerging transformative technologies
  • Role of the Technology and Innovation Lab in digital transformation to support the Sustainable Development Goals

The presentation will start with context setting by providing an overview of ITS’ Contribution to the WBG DTs Agenda and describe the mandate of the ITSTI Unit/Lab and Operationalization of Disruptive technologies to help WBG achieve its mission and help client countries achieve SDGs. Then it will focus on details about ITSTI lab’s areas of focus and exploration with emerging technologies, specifically in sectors and themes explored along with the clients the ITSTI lab has engaged and collaborated with since its creation in June 2017. The third and final part will highlight some of the ITSTI projects that explored the potential of Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT) in order to solve development challenges in an innovative way. Specific use cases show ITSTI’s exploration in Health Supply Chain, Palm Oil Supply Chain, Micro Pensions, Bond Issuance, AI for Auditing Reports, AI for productivity, and more.

About the Presenters

 

Seema Angiras’s expertise is a trifecta of business innovation, digital transformation and business process management. She drives innovation and change by applying her expertise in different methodologies like Agile, Design Thinking and Foresight. Seema is the Portfolio lead of ITSTI since she joined in Nov 2018 and is responsible for overseeing planning and execution of variety of Client Engagements across different Global Practices in ITSTI that utilize emerging transformative technology solutions, principles, standards, and best practices to achieve strategic objectives that align with WBG’s Disruptive Technologies (DTs) agenda. Seema, in her prior work at the World Bank as Sr Business Architect since 2015 had the opportunity to work across all 6 portfolios of ITSOC and gained comprehensive business and technical knowledge of many high-profile Bank applications. To summarize Seema has 11+ years of progressive, varied and extensive experience as Enterprise Architect, Business Process Consultant and Product Manager providing solutions for large-scale, high-value projects and programs in fortune 100 companies ranging from Healthcare, Manufacturing, Banking and Financial Services. Seema has been recognized for her outstanding ability to identify, conceptualize, and solve highly complex problems with diverse in-depth business and technical skills.

Jinhee Park is a data scientist currently working in the ITS Technology & Innovation Lab. She delivers technology solutions for multi-disciplinary proofs of concept and projects that focus on blockchain and AI. She has developed Machine Learning algorithms and statistical models for multiple projects and leverages Big Data & Machine learning to  drive business solutions. Jinhee holds a master’s degree specializing in  Data Science from Columbia University and she is a joint fellow of MIT Media Lab and UNSCC. She is also a member of the Association of  Women in Science (AWIS) and NYC Women in Machine Learning & Data Science. Jinhee decided to join the Fundamentals of Disruptive Technology learning program to  help and guide all aspiring individuals in WBG who want to wrestle with all the raw massive data we are surrounded by and refine it into trends and predictions.

Ji Ho Shin is a Technology and Innovation Officer and has spent several years researching and proposing business strategies and operation in the public and private sectors. Prior to the Word Bank, he worked at the Korea Institute of Public Administration (KIPA) which is a government think-tank under Prime Minister's Office in South Korea and the Republic of Korea Army. He involved in publishing a paper on Effective Governance for Risk Management of Artificial Intelligence with the Korea Institute of Public Administration.  He also has experiences of leading management consulting firms and Investment Bank such Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and UBS in Asia Pacific markets. He created and proposed strategies to address international environmental compliance requirements and new market opportunities for disruptive technology. He holds a Master’s in Management, Information System and Innovation from the London School of Economics (LSE) in the United Kingdom. Ji Ho will provide expertise in validating the scope of key use case, participate or lead design sessions and support in documenting lessons learned on each of use cases.
