Note: This is an example only. Each woman’s needs and work schedule are different. Talk to her to find a schedule for nursing breaks that will work best for her.
7:15 AM Drop baby off with childcare provider; feed the baby one last time
8:00 AM Arrive at work
10:00-10:20 AM Break - express milk (eat a nutritious snack)
12:00-12:30 PM Lunch break – express milk while eating
2:30-2:50 PM Break - express milk (eat a nutritious snack)
5:00 PM End work
Feed the baby at childcare provider before going home
☐ Discuss the company’s lactation policy for supporting nursing women prior to the employee’s maternity leave, if possible, so you can make any arrangements needed while she is away.
☐ Praise her! Tell her you will support her decision to breastfeed. Assure that her direct supervisor and other relevant managers are aware of her needs.
☐ Review the employee’s typical work/break schedule to arrange for milk expression breaks.
☐ Arrange for coverage (such as using “floaters”) while she is away from her work station.
☐ Identify private space that is not a bathroom.
☐ Seek feedback from the employee and her supervisor.
