WePOWER Partners' initiatives in terms of Role Models

 

IEEE India Returning Mothers Conference    

To encourage local women and students to plan for the break and make the reentry seamless, Ramalatha Marimuthu (Professor, Department of ECE, KCT, India) has been running a program called “Returning Mothers –Rediscovering the Lost Talent Pool” in the form of small workshops. To this effect, a Returning Mothers Conference was held in Bangalore on 13th and14th November 2019.

In November 2020, the Madras Section Women in Engineering hosted the Second Returning Mothers panel discussion. The participants learned from the experiences of successful returning mothers who re-entered the workforce after a career break. This session aimed to pave the way for the new returning mothers who want to re-launch their careers and need support. 

 

Power Hour 2021 by Women in Energy Pakistan

On April 2021, Women in Energy launched a bimonthly podcast-style show, Power Hour 2021 series. The storytelling format features women in the energy sector who shed light on their career journeys, work-life balance, and their passion for working in the energy sector. Here is the link to watch the episodes.  

 

Bangladesh Power Development Board’s (BPDB) Female Engineer Role Model

On May 1, 2021, a virtual talk was organized by the Voice of Engineers-Bangladesh forum, viewed by 2.3k viewers. The discussion focused on the ‘Story and status of electricity in the country's second Capital Chattogram’.The program’s featured guest was BPDP’s Engr. Dewan Samina Banu (Chief Engineer, Distribution Zone Chattogram), the first female chief engineer in distribution. Engr. Banu spoke about the role she and her team play to ensure an uninterrupted power supply amid the pandemic. She also shared stories about her journey as one of the pioneer female engineers of BPDB.

 

Power Talk Series by Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd. (DDL) 

On Feb 8, 2021, Tata Power-DDL invited eminent leaders from industries across the globe to share their business strategies and leadership experiences with its female employees. These interactive virtual sessions were open to all employees across the organization. One of the sessions was with Ms. Anuranjita Kumar (entrepreneur and author of Can I Have it All?) and was attended by around 192 Tata Power-DDL female employees. She motivated the women employees and discussed strategies to help address challenges that they may face in their careers. 

 

Returning Mothers Workshop for Women Professionals in STEM and the Energy Sector 

On Nov 20-21, 2020, WePOWER launched the Returning Mothers campaign to promote the IEEE WIE India Section Returning Mothers Workshop. The objective of the campaign was to learn from the experiences of successful returning mothers from different generations, and pave the way for the new returning mothers who want to re-launch their careers. 

 

Women in Leadership League (WILL) Initiative by Tata Power-DDL 

On March 2021, Tata Power-DDL launched the WILL initiative to empower female employees and prepare them to take on challenging roles and responsibilities through an exclusive series of programs. It focused on women’s leadership development, self-empowerment & career development, strategies to deal with workplace challenges, creating a personal brand, and opportunity to learn from the inspirational women leaders in the sector.   

 

IEEE Returning Mothers Conference  


On August 28-29, 2021, The IEEE Computer Society, WePOWER, and IEEE Women In Engineering (WIE), organized the third Returning Mothers Conference 2021.156 attendees participated in this virtual conference. One of the sessions, “Diversity and Inclusion Policies in the Workplace” included WePOWER Partners from the region including Faiza Savul (K-Electric), Harleen Sachdeva (EESL), Sangay Tenzin, (BPC), and Dr. Bozenna Pasik Duncan (IEEE Global). Recording Link for the conference. 

 

Online Training: WILL- Unravel the Leader Within by TATA Power - DDL 

On July 20 & 23, 2021, An interactive online session WILL - Unravel the Leader Within, was organized as part of the women development initiatives. There were two hours of sessions on each day for female employees at the manager level and focused on creating a motivational climate and context for the success of female employees, and enhancing their leadership potential. Dr. Neelam Dhall, Professor and Dean (Research & Development.) at Jagan Institute of Management Studies (JIMS, Rohini Sector-5) delivered the sessions. 


 

IEEE Bangladesh Section organizes an experience-sharing forum featuring speakers from both private and public industries to encourage women to stay engaged in PES in Bangladesh. Two experience-sharing forums are arranged, each catering to 10 female engineers in Bangladesh.  

 

 

Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers, Women in Engineering, India (IEEE WIE India) hosts panel sessions as part of the Returning Mothers Conference in India.  

 

In Bhutan Power Corporation Limited (BPC), HR, in collaboration with the WePOWER focal person, conducts a reorientation program specifically tailored for returning mothers. The program's objective is to acquaint returning mothers with recent system changes that occurred during their absence and provide essential information regarding BPC service rules and regulations.
