Fintech, Female Employment, and Gender Inequality (2022)

Using data from 114 economies around the world (including Nepal, Pakistan, and India), researchers from the International Monetary Fund show that financial technologies (Fintech) can reduce gender inequality by raising female employment relative to men. The financial access provided by Fintech is particularly helpful to female-led firms, small firms, and firms in service sectors that traditionally hire more female workers. The caveat, however, is that it only appears to have a positive impact in places with good governance, law and regulations. Read more.
