Overview:

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)  has recently launched two of their flagship reports: the ‘State of the World’s Forests 2020’ (SOFO), with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the ‘Global Forest Resources Assessment (FRA)’ 2020. These reports provide the latest information on the extent and quality of global forest resources and how these impact human wellbeing and biodiversity.

During the webinar, key authors of these reports will present their main findings and discuss how the World Bank teams can use the findings.

SOFO 2020:  The State of the World’s Forests, published every two years since 2005, reports on the status of forests, recent major policy and institutional developments and key issues in the forest sector. “The State of the World’s Forests 2020: Forests, Biodiversity and People” (SOFO 2020), jointly prepared by UNEP and FAO was virtually launched on 22 May, 2020. FRA 2020:  The Global Forest Resources Assessment 2020 examines the status of, and trends in, more than 60 forest-related variables in 236 countries and territories in the period 1990–2020. The information provided by FRA presents a comprehensive view of the world’s forests and the ways in which the resource is changing. Such a clear global picture supports the development of sound policies, practices and investments affecting forests and forestry. Link to ‘Key Findings’
