Managing sustainable Amazon landscapes for nature and people: opportunities for collaboration

January 7, 2021 | Full Day | IUCN World Conservation Congress, Marseille, France

How would you protect the largest rainforest on Earth? Join this interactive session by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) to learn about the sustainable management of the Amazon landscape from various stakeholders (governments, communities, NGOs, private sector and donors) and identify ways of working together in the Amazon and apply lessons to other landscapes. The session is part of the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Marseille, France from Jan 7 to 15, 2021.

The proposed session aims to share challenges and lessons learned from working on biodiversity management in the Amazon, based on the most recent and innovative views of a wide variety of stakeholders. Speakers will include stakeholders and partners from the GEF-financed Amazon Sustainable Landscapes (ASL) Program and beyond. The session will propose a panel discussion and will interact with the audience through polling on solutions to be implemented in the Amazon, allowing for engagement during the session itself. It will enable identifying opportunities for partnerships with other stakeholders active in the Amazon and provide feedback for implementing solutions in other transboundary critical ecosystems, including on managing landscapes and developing regional strategies for conservation.
